THE BOOK OF ACTS

Led by TODD CULVER at 9:00am Sunday mornings in Sanctuary Room.

Before Jesus finally left His disciples here on earth after the Resurrection, He gave them some specific commands: Stop in Jerusalem. Wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit, as promised. Go and be My witnesses throughout the whole earth. The early believers (the church) were successful because they obeyed all three commands in the right order! In the book of Acts, the Apostle Luke describes in careful detail the beginnings of the Christian church. They were full of the power of the Holy Spirit, they shared their resources, they learned through the Apostles teachings, they grew in number. They also found themselves in opposition with the Jewish authorities, and the political powers that be. But persecution and expansion seemed to go hand in hand. God was on the move! Come explore what we can learn from these dynamic believers!

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW

On hiatus until the COVID restrictions are lifted.
Led by TROY STUTZMAN (541-321-9512)

The book of Matthew was probably written for a Jewish Christian community. The Apostle Matthew aims to convince his readers that Jesus is the Messiah. So he emphasizes how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament - even in His birth. And he includes five major teaching sections, showing Jesus to be the great new prophet/messiah that was expected by the Jews. Jesus, the Anointed One (Christ) refers to someone specially commissioned by God to do hsi workd, especially in settings God's people free. The Jewish community wanted a "savior" to free them from Roman oppression. But Jesus Christ came to be a suffering Savior before becoming a glorious king! His redemptive plan brought forgiveness of sin, all out of love for the world and whoever would accept the gift.
